An amazing lesson in a fully aerobatic plane.
Watch in HD and you can read the panel!

We’re flying a Bellanca Citabria
Model: 7KCAB

NOTE: This was a great lesson, but it was EDITED down from over an hour to under 20 minutes; Thus, there are some missing details and possible lost context – PLEASE do not look at this as instruction but rather the start to a conversation that you can have with your instructor.

Clarification regarding the prop strike:
When I said “it wasn’t major” I meant it wasn’t a crash or something that involved airframe damage; it happened while taxiing… The crazy thing is, this particular prop strike was almost avoided – the engine was shut down by the time it happened, and it was actually on the “kick back” when it struck… so the trailing edge of the prop was where the damage happened. But still, they took it seriously and went through the full inspection process which is great.

I mention Bob Hoover a couple times in this video. If you haven’t read is book “Forever Flying” I’d highly recommend you check it out. It’s my favorite flying book.
And if you haven’t seen him fly – search YouTube and you’ll find many videos of Bob’s incredible energy management demonstration.

This is an other “epic” long one as I tend to try to aim for ~5 minute videos – but it is a good one, I put a lot of time into editing it to keep it engaging, yet thorough; so please stick it out for the full ~17 minutes.

Flight Chops Disclaimer

I am a “weekend warrior” private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience – I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve…. Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.

Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
